Festival of the Lion King: A Must See at Animal Kingdom

If you are visiting the Animal Kingdom the Festival Lion King show is a must see show.  I was excited to share this gem with my family on our last visit to the park and everyone was impressed.

The show features a mixture of music, dance, an animatronic puppetry (see the giant Elephant above)

The costumes are colorful and the fun vibe in the theater is contagious.

It is like the Lion King parade that they used to have in Disneyland if it took place inside a theater.


           Among the entertainment was a cool fire knife dance.

The songs from the Lion King are incredible and the singers in the show are great.

In addition to the singing there are the Tumble Monkeys which gives the show an acrobatic flare.

Here are the Tumble Monkeys ---goofing off with Timon.

The Finale includes a combination of all the songs and a flying bird acrobat swinging around the stage.  What makes the show a must see is the music from this classic animated feature.  It makes the show feel timeless.

Definitely check it out when you go to the Animal Kingdom

Dinosaur: A Disneyworld Ride Review

Dinosaur:  A Disney World Ride Review:  9 out of 10

When we were at Animal Kingdom on our recent trip –we timed going on this ride perfectly.  We had just finished dinner at Rainforest Café and had wandered over to Dinosaur—just as the lines that were much larger earlier in the day were gone.  We were lucky enough to wait at the most about 5 minutes for the ride and immediately jumped back in line to do it again with an even shorter line the second time.      

The Dinosaur ride makes use of the ride technology Disney created for the Indiana Jones Attraction in California.  In fact the ride itself uses the same exact track.  Instead of Indiana Jones battling the angry god Mara –this ride has you bumping around in the dark trying to locate a specific dinosaur while trying to avoid a meteor shower and a giant Carnosaur.  The ride is thrilling and features a great dramatic finale.  Basically the rolling ball from the Indiana Jones attraction has been replaced by a giant dino.

As a family attraction –it may be a little bit too intense for younger kids—I guess you need to know what your kids can and can’t handle.  Kids can be weird about what they will and won’t go on.  Personally like the Indiana Jones version better---but if you like Indy you will like Dinosaur and it is the only ride similar on the East Coast.

Kilimanjaro Safaris: Family Attraction Review 10 out of 10 Part 2

Okay Back for Part 2 of our Safari.   This 10 out of 10 Family Adventure is one of my favorites in the parks.

Walt's original plan for the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland was to have real animals.  They had to explain to Walt that it wouldn't work.

Well years later when the Disney company opened the Animal Kingdom they made Walt's dream come true.  Kilimanjaro Safaris transports you to Africa.   In part 1 we saw some Elephants ---let's see what we can see in Part 2

Kilimanjaro Safaris is entered in  after passing through the town of Harambe.  The ride takes place in the Harambe Wildlife Reserve.  The ride itself takes up more space than all of Disneyland in CA 

The animals you can encounter on a trip to Africa via the Safari ride can be impressive...Here are just a few that we got some shots of on our ride.

The Hippos

"Don't worry, the natives tell me that they are only dangerous when they wiggle their ears and blow bubble"

Crocs

"You know the crocs are always looking for a hand out. Ya' but be careful, I once had an English teacher on board and she didn't listen to me......

"Now she is teaching shorthand"

Rhinos

One of the great things about this ride is that most of the animals have free roam of the large enclosures.  It is not uncommon to have a Rhino stroll right next to or in front of your vehicle.

Zebras

Hiding in the background the elusive Okapi.  A Relative of the Giraffe family.

 Speaking of Giraffe's  hear comes one now making his way down the road

The views along your journey are breathtaking.  This is the playground of these beautiful creatures.  A replica of Africa in the middle of Florida.  The details Disney put into this ride are stunning.
