Star Wars Droid Tales: A TV Show review

(Chewie in Vacation Wear)

I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Lego Movie which most everyone else loved,  but I’m in love with Star Wars Droid Tales.   I’m a big Star Wars fan and I enjoyed both the edgy Robot Chicken parody and the raunchier Family Guy parodies of the franchise. The Lego Mini-Series is a more family friendly version of those parodies.
It is innocent and yet still funny.  I find myself especially enjoying Yoda in the series (Impatient he is).  The series was originally a mini-series on the Cartoon Network titled the Yoda Chronicles.   Impatient he is in this series.   When Disney bought Star Wars the show produced by Lego—moved over to Disney/ Disney XD with a slight name change and now continues as  Star Wars Droid Tales.   The show features some original material that parodies the characters as well as parodies of the actual films with a Lego style interpretations of the stories. In the most recent episode there was a joke about the Cantina in Mos Eisley losing all it's business to Watto's new night club.  If you have any younger Star Wars fans –they will definitely enjoy it.  It is just a fun little kid friendly Star Wars diversion ---well we wait for Rebels to return and the movies to hit the big screen.

The current mini-series of Droid Tales has featured 3 episodes so far with the next episode airing in October of this year with Flight of the Falcon on 10/05/15.

Here is a trailer for the series.

Descendants 2015 6 out of 10 (Disney Channel Movie #2)

Descendants 2015  6 out of 10

It was family movie night and my stepdaughter wanted to watch the direct to Disney channel movie Descendants.  It was a well done yet predictable direct to TV Disney movie.   The movie is a fun musical take on the famous Disney heroes and villains from the the animated movies.  It takes place in a world where The Beast from Beauty and the Beast has united all of the kingdoms and expelled the villains to live on a remote Isle of the Lost.   His son Ben will be taking over as king and as one of his first acts decides to grant the villains children a chance to attend school with the heroes kids.

The Movie itself:
(Spoiler)    The movie is predictable in that the bad kids will of course end up good in the end  (you never really feel like they are actually bad).   The movie features the sons and daughters of the Evil Queen from Snow White, Cruella Devil, Jafar and Maleficent.  Even though it is clear where this movie is going from the beginning the fun in the film comes from Dove Cameron who plays the main character Mal (daughter of Maleficent).  Dove Cameron is a true talent and shines in this movie.

She has an IT quality like Lindsey Lohan did (before she went crazy party girl) Dove especially shines when opposite one of her idols Kristin Chenoweth who plays her evil mother.

The music :
The music and dance numbers are good but not Disney animated great,  with the exception of the duet between Maleficent and her daughter Mal, which is top notch.   The dance numbers were great especially the opening number that introduces the characters and the finale.  As Disney channel movies go it was a fun watch with the kids . They enjoyed the film and I would recommend it for the family.  It was a fun an interesting world that I could see some interesting stories told in.    I personally would have liked it more if it hadn't been so predictable from the beginning.  It lacked tension that could have made it a better movie.

Disney/Pixar Animated Short Reviews: #28 Dog Show 2013 6 out of 10

Dog Show  2013   6 out of 10

In the latest in the current series of Mickey Mouse Cartoons Mickey and Pluto are getting ready for the big dog show.  It was nice to see Pluto making an appearance, since I don't recall seeing him in the series so far.    Anyway Goofy shows up and throws a stick for Pluto that goes over a cliff leaving Pluto injured and unable to be in the dog show.   Mickey gets the idea to have Goofy take his place since the prize money was going to go to the Orphanage.  This brings up the old argument regarding  why is Mickey's best friend Goofy a dog that can talk ---while Pluto also a dog (that can't talk)  his pet???  It will remain one of the mysteries of the universe that I guess I will just have to accept.   Moving on....Goofy ends up not performing that well in the dog show leading a frustrated Mickey to perform all the tricks himself and accidentally winning the prize when he is mistaken for a dog.    It was a simple cartoon that was ok, but not great.

The Goofy problem is really starting to bug me.  Why do they insist on making him look like a dirty homeless dog with no pants.   Goofy is my favorite Disney character and his look in the current cartoon series is really unpleasant.  There wasn't much difference between the Zombie Goofy from last week and the bedraggled version in this weeks cartoon.

The cartoon can currently be found airing on the Disney Channel and Disney Online
