A Disney Restaurant Review: Zootopia Corn Bananas at Award Wieners

Some things you just have to try and you end up regretting afterwards.

An example of this is Chocolate Covered Bacon.

I remember trying it at a Chocolate Festival.
I figured “I like Chocolate” and “I like Bacon”

“I’ll probably like Chocolate Covered Bacon Right ?”.

I was wrong of course. The first bite tasted okay –but then aftertaste kicked in.

So when I saw this limited time treat for Zootopia was going to be at Award Wieners at DCA ---I was interested –but uncertain.

I saw the picture for it on the Disney Parks Blog.
It looked interesting.

It was basically 2 bananas dipped in corn and honey batter (Sounds Good) Topped with Powdered sugar (Good right). It came with a pair of dipping sauces. Chocolate and Raspberry (Yum).

Well I had been out to the park a couple of times and curious though I was, I kept thinking “Chocolate Covered Bacon”.
I passed up on getting this both trips. The thought of Chocolate Covered Bacon running through my brain.

My 3^rd trip to the Disney Parks I knew it wasn’t going to be around much longer so I just had to try it.

Just like Chocolate Covered Bacon the first bite tasted pretty good.

Again my logic was flawed.

“I Love Corn Dogs” and “I like Bananas”, but just like Chocolate Covered Bacon --apparently not together. A couple bites in my original positive impression had faded. Bananas on their own are good. Frozen Bananas covered in Chocolate are great. A banana Split is one of the best things ever.

I’ll give them some props for trying it –but I would not order this item again if they brought it back.

(Disney Animated Movie Review #12 ) Zootopia 2016 9 out of 10

The whole family headed out to Downtown Disney the other day to watch Zootopia and everyone left the film in a great mood.

Just like Pixar’s Inside Out last year this film has a great message. The main theme of the film is a very uplifting one. The main theme is that anyone can be anything. That even if people try and put you down or hold you back –if you work hard enough you can achieve anything. The main character Judy Hopps is the perfect example of this. She is a little female rabbit that grew up out in the countryside of Bunny Burrows. She is determined to be the first Bunny cop. She keeps being told that this is a goal that she will never reach, but she shows through hard work and determination that she can achieve her goals. The film also has the strong theme of not judging a book by the cover.
These great messages carry the movie plot forward and make for an entertaining and great film and although this is the heart of the film- There is something else which I believe is making the film so popular with audiences.

And that is World Building:

I mentioned this key ingredient before I even saw the film after the sneak peek at the Disney Parks.

World building is a key ingredient in why Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are so popular. It was probably a big factor in Monsters Inc. as well. Zootopia does an amazing job of World Building in setting up the world that the animals of Zootopia live in. There are different climate regions such as TundraTown and Sahara Square. These areas of Zootopia make for an interesting world that leaves you wanting to see more of it. You get a really good look at Zootopia as Judy Hopps arrives to the main police station via Monorail early in the film. The monorail ride takes the viewer through several sections of the world they have created and the imagination just runs wild . Like in Harry Potter where every kid wants to go to school at Hogwart’s, I think every kid would like to visit or live in Zootopia. My teenage step son left the movie asking when they would come out with a sequel.
The movie ends in a perfect place for there to be sequels in which we could explore more of this interesting world they created.

To sum it up:

The animation was excellent. The characters were interesting.
The casting of Jason Bateman as the Nick Wilde the Fox sidekick to Ginnifer Goodwin's Judy Hopps was perfect.
The plot was good, even though I figured out the twist fairly early on (I think because I've seen so many Scooby Doo episodes).
The World of Zootopia was amazing just like like Inside Out and definitely has the potential for sequels or cartoon shorts.
Disney has another hit on its hands.

Zootopia Sneak Peek in Disney's California Adventure

It is time for yet another in park Movie Sneak Peek.

This time around it is for Disney's upcoming animated movie Zootopia. When Zootopia was first announced I wasn't exactly dying to see it. The very first teaser ad just looked like another Madagascar clone. Then they came out with a fun trailer with the classic Sloth at the DMV scene. If you haven't seen that --check out the trailer.

The 4-D sneak Peek has completely changed my mind about the film as a throw away animated feature. The movie starts out showing the Rabbit character Hops training to be a cop in the big city and then features a long segment showing her first trip into the city. All I could think about while watching this segment was that this movie actually had some great world building elements. The concept of the city of Zootopia looks amazing. All of the different sections of the city looked amazing. The scenes just showing all the people walking around reminded me of the glimpses we got of Monstropolis in Monsters Inc. This film now is a must see for me and the kids and I could totally see this as a TV show as well.

If you are in the parks definitely check this out. It is showing in the Bug's Life Theater. When entering the show they have been handing out cool like promo cardboard rabbit or fox ears.
