Ultimate Epcot: If money was no object --What would you add to Epcot: Part 7 Wonders of Life (Inside Out)

The Wonders of Life Pavilion has just been sitting there for quite awhile now. I'm not sure of what remains inside the Pavilion as I believe it has only been used in recent years for things like Food and Wine and stuff like that.

This Pavilion used to house Body Wars -A Star Wars style ride that took you into the human body--and made people want to upchuck their lunch. It also included Cranium Command--which was clearly an inspiration for the recent Pixar movie Inside Out.

(BELLS GO OFF IN HEAD)
Immediately the thought came to me as well as thousands of others that recall the attraction was that a clear opportunity to make use of the old ride has presented itself.
In Ultimate Epcot we have been talking about what you would add to each section of World Showcase “If money was no object”.   So let's turn our attention to the Wonders of Life Pavilion
( seen below in this old Picture from Pinterest.)

    (Photo from Pinterest)

The realistic thing would be for Disney to just retool the old Cranium Command attraction which basically took you inside a youth's brain and had celebrity voices portraying the different parts of the body as the youth made his way through a day at school.    Ultimate Epcot: We look at the big picture:  "If money was no object" The celebrity voices wouldbe replaced of course by the characters from the movie Inside Out.  This would be a great little attraction.   The same concept --Just updated with this cool new characters.
.

But of course thinking bigger  "If Money was no Object"  they could do so much more with the Inside Out concept.  Think of an entire Inside Out pavilion with interactive exhibits about the entire human body.  An Innoventions style building with stuff like a kids roller coaster like the transporation vehicle in the film.   How fun would little kids have with giant memory walls where the lights change colors when they touch them,

I know ball pits have gone the way of the Dodo --but a Memory Ball pool or interactive game where the kids have to retrieve memory balls would be fun.

Character Meet and Greets or alittle show featuring Bing Bong.   There are so many possibilities with the world of Inside Out.   I can't wait to check out the new Inside Out short film Riley's first date...which will come out with the DVD.

Pixar really knocked it out of the park concept wise with this film and it lends itself to a Wonders of Life Pavilion Reboot.

What would you like to see "If Money was no object"?

Pixar’s Inside Out Pre-Parade.

While in the park this past Sunday my Stepdaughter wanted to see the Inside Out parade float which is a Pre-Parade float that goes by before The Pixar Play Parade.
Getting a spot for DCA’s  daytime parade was a lot easier.   Our timing was perfect:  We caught the tail end of the little newsboy show that features Mickey Mouse and as soon as that cleared out we were able to grab a spot across from the Carthay Circle in the shade and the Pre-Parade was just about 15 minutes away.

These little Pre-Parade floats are usually used as a way of advertising the newest movies.  They are great way of giving the kids that just saw the movie or are planning to see the movie getting a chance to see those characters that aren’t a part of long term parades like Pixar’s Play Parade.

Here are a couple of pictures I snapped of this float.

My personal favorite from the movie Anger.

Poor Sadness

FEAR

DISGUST

We decided to stay and check the Pixar Parade.

I’ll have a photo blog from that later this week

(Disney Animated Movie Review #11 ) Pixar's Inside Out 2015 9+ out of 10

Inside Out 2015  9+ out of 10

Pixar strikes again:  Inside Out takes a high concept idea taken to the next level.  As I mentioned in a previous blog about it's box office success, Inside Out takes concepts covered in an old Disney World War 2 cartoon,  an old Epcot attraction called Cranium Command and the TV show Herman's Head  and creates an incredible new universe.    What Tron did for the computer Inside Out does with the human brain.

The Story
The story follows a young girl named Riley whose life has been completely happy until her family moves from their home in Minnesota to San Francisco.   We get to follow how this dramatic life change effects Riley from the point of life of her emotions.   Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness are the emotions that control Riley's mind in what is called Headquarters.  These anamorphic creatures help to guide Riley through life and the film focuses on how they deal with this new drastic change.   Things get a little out of control as the emotions take on this new challenge,  which is where all the fun begins.   This simple sounding story is taken to creative and imaginative places.  There is definitely world building going on in this universe and I could see additional stories being told in this world --whether that be animated shorts of sequels.  I love where they took this concept.

The Cast
The casting of the emotions was great:   Amy Poehler plays the main character of Joy (who has basically been in charge until the life change happens) and totally nails the role.  Phyllis Smith  (Phyllis from the Office) personifies sadness and Lewis Black is an absolute blast as Anger. I would love to see an animated short based on Anger being in control the whole time.  He is a tour de force and the fact that the movie touches on the emotions in other people's head leaves so many possibilities open.   An argument between Lewis Black and Gilbert Gottfried (as someone else's Anger)  --would be epic.

Emotional Ride
This movie succeeds in not just showing you the emotions that Riley goes through --but actually takes you on an emotional ride along with some of those emotions.  The movie makes you laugh and makes you emotional as well. The journey that Joy and Sadness go on together drags you along with them.  The movie may connect with you on levels an average animated film does not.  In the same way the Toy Story pulled on your emotions when Jessie's owner that once loved her leaves her behind in a box the character of Bing Bong may make you miss your childhood.   The movie deals with the loss of innocence in a similar way and may effect the emotions of both child and adult alike.  The movie just hits all the right notes and ends with a hiliarious montage of the emotions in the heads of many other people.  It left the kids cracking up with laughter , which was a great way for a movie that can actually make you think sending you out of the theater.

I would definitely recommend Inside Out to anyone.  Especially after seeing the trailer for some upcoming animated movies that will soon hit the theaters.  I'd rather watch  take a deep and thoughtful movie like Inside Out over babbling  fart joke Minions anyday.

Dream Productions a great concept.
I just had to mention Dream Productions because I love that concept and about 7 years ago had a concept myself (which I'm sure hundreds of creative  people have considered before me) about an entire movie based on your dream world.   I had about 5 very different concepts for movies based on dreams and the dream world --but one centered on your dreams being run by a Hollywood movie company putting them on for you each night.   This movie is the first movie that really touched on that.  I can see an entire movie based on this concept.  Pixar is the perfect place for this idea and this movie touches the surface of what could be an entire movie --where Dream Central (in my concept) gets a budget for your dream and the whole movie deals with the chaos of trying to put on that production as writers keep changing the script as the dream goes on.  I loved how they dipped into this concept and I would love to see a movie about this like what I had imagined previously.   Do or do Not Pixar  "Dream Productions" would make a great movie.

Disney/Pixar Animated Short Reviews: #60 Reason and Emotion 1943 7+ out of 10 (This one is for the adults)

Reason and Emotion 1943  7+ out of 10

After reading an article  on yahoo about an old Disney war Propaganda film being an inspiration for Pixar's new hit film Inside Out --I had to check it out.

Reason and Emotion was an Anti-Nazi Propaganda film the Disney made during the war effort and takes a look at the battle between Reason and Emotion in the human brain when making decisions.  This was an interesting cartoon that in today's "Politically Correct world" is not so politically correct.  I would say this particular Disney cartoon is not really for the kids--but worth checking out as an adult fan of Disney history.

The character of Emotion in this cartoon is played by a cartoon caveman that seems all ID battling for the control of the human brain with Reason that is portrayed by a Felix Unger type  (basically the Super Ego).  The caveman character is funny despite being a extremely inappropriate by modern standards.  The cartoon hits some heavy topics when its discusses Hitler  (yes Hitler)  and how he played on the people of Germany's emotions to work toward world conquest in his propaganda.   If you are a fan of Disney history definitely check this cartoon out. It can be found in the article below from Yahoo, with an intro from Leonard Maltin.

The films obvious influence on Inside Out is in the concept of different characters inside a person's head representing their emotions and  controlling their actions.

Box Office Report: Inside Out : Opening weekend results and outlook going forward

Box Office:
Early Box Office estimates show Pixar's Inside Out coming in 2nd at the Box Office this weekend behind the Juggernaut that is Jurassic World making it the first Pixar movie not to debut at number #1.    That being said it is far from being a disappoint,  in fact it's opening weekend is the 2nd largest weekend ever for a Pixar movie --behind only Toy Story 3 and biggest for a non sequel.   It is estimated to make around  84 to 89 Million in it's opening weekend according to Box Office Mojo.   (see link below)

It is currently getting a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is getting great reviews from critics.   Pixar has been the best at these high concept type movies and has apparently knocked it out of the park again with this movie.  I will probably see next weekend when the kids are home and have my own review at that point.

The concept:
The concept behind the movie isn't as original as some people are saying since it is the same basic concept as the TV show Herman's Head from the early 1990's and Disney's own  1943 Anti -Nazi propaganda film"Reason and Emotion" which  co-Director Pete Doctor sited as an influence.  Epcot even head an attraction in the Wonders of Life Pavillion called Cranium Command which covered some of the same ground, but  Pixar has a way of taking a great concept and making it even better and filling it with emotion which seems to be the thing that is connecting with audiences.

Outlook going forward:
I wouldn't be surprised if this movie continued to rack up big box office numbers for weeks to come.  It has no real competition for the family audience at the box office until Minions comes out on July 10th,  which means it will probably still be bringing in large numbers over the 4th of July Holiday

Here is the Trailer for the Film
