A Disney Restaurant Review: The Blue Bayou at Disneyland

When you go on the Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland-you will pass this cool indoor restaurant that looks like it is  outside at night time in New Orleans. If you have never been to the Blue Bayou it is definitely  something you should experience. The Blue Bayou is all about the atmosphere,  dining with the boats in background slowly making their way through the Bayou.  Overhead are beautiful lanterns that also set the mood for a romantic date or a relaxing family meal. My wife had never been to the Blue Bayou so I had to correct that this year by making a special trip out to the park so that she could experience it for the first time.  It was a trip that was well worth it.

The menu is New Orleans/Cajun and the star for me has always been Le Special de Monte Cristo.   This sandwich is sooooooo good.  I dare you to not fall in love with this fattening delight of a meal.   I also dare you to finish it.

Le Special de Monte Cristo Sandwich

Turkey, Ham, and Swiss Cheese battered and fried to golden brown served with a Fruit Skewer. Choice of Blue Bayou House Salad or Cup of our Signature New Orleans Gumbo or upgrade to our zesty Shrimp Cocktail

Since I had tried the Monte Cristo every time I had gone to the Blue Bayou in the past I decided to try something different this time and went with the Tesoro Island Chicken Breast.

Tesoro Island Chicken Breast

Pan-seared with Boursin Cheese Mashed Potatoes, Sautéed Spinach, and Fennel Confit with Roasted Shallot Reduction. Choice of Blue Bayou House Salad or Cup of our Signature New Orleans Gumbo or upgrade to our zesty Shrimp Cocktail

It was out of this world good and I would definitely go back just to have this again.   The chicken was cooked perfectly and the Boursin Cheese Mashed potatoes  (someone give me the recipe please).

The prices at the Blue Bayou can be ----well a little pricey....But the experience and atmosphere are worth a trip...especially if you have never tried it before.  So get adventurous and break out of the burger and fries and try some indoor (outdoor) dining at one of the coolest places in the parks.
